Shinsya Flambe Glazed Cup

Sale price$89.00

This captivating piece from Shinemon Inc. embodies the signature brilliance of the Shinsya-yu glaze—a time-honored technique that brings together iron-rich red tones with complex, high-temperature reduction firing. The result is a surface alive with movement: cascading reds blend with violet, blue, and deep charcoal, creating a dramatic flambe effect that feels both ancient and elemental.

Each cup tells its own story. The firing process encourages natural variation, with color shifts and flowing textures that reveal the unpredictability of flame and mineral. While the shape is restrained and functional—a gently flared lip, a balanced, tapering form—the glaze turns it into something extraordinary.

Rooted in Arita ware tradition and reinterpreted through Shinemon’s bold, expressive lens, the Shinsya Flambe Glazed Cup is more than just a vessel—it’s a moment of captured fire, cooled to hold in your hand. Ideal for those who seek not just form and function, but presence and atmosphere in every sip.

Meet the Artisan

Shinemon Inc.

Shinemon Inc. was founded in 1972 by Shinichiro Baba, a ceramic artist, who sought to redefine the boundaries of Arita ware. At a time when most kilns focused on refined, painted porcelain, Shinemon pursued scale, depth, and raw expression—producing large vessels and tableware shaped as much by the flame as by the hand.

Over the decades, the kiln became known for its mastery of yohen effects. Rather than seeking perfection through control, the kiln embraces imperfection as an essential part of beauty. The kiln atmosphere is used as a collaborator, not just a tool—resulting in glazes that ripple, fade, and flare with subtle unpredictability.

Now led by the second generation, the kiln continues to balance tradition with bold experimentation. Their pieces—tumblers, coffee cups, serving bowls, sculptural vessels—are made not for ornament but for experience. Each one carries the mark of the kiln, the hand, and the moment. It is Arita ware with soul: elemental, expressive, and deeply individual.
