Seiten Small Plates Sky Blue Glaze (Set of 2)

Sale price$149.00

Awash in an arresting shade of sky blue, these small plates from Dainichi Kiln evoke the quiet brilliance of sunlight diffused across still water. Each piece is handcrafted in Kyoto and finished with a reactive glaze that pools richly at the center—where speckled textures bloom like crystallized dew. The subtle gradient from center to rim reflects the kiln’s signature technique, capturing both clarity and depth in a single stroke.

Gracefully low in profile and refined in proportion, these plates are ideal for serving wagashi, condiments, or other small offerings with understated elegance. Whether displayed or in use, they embody the kiln’s philosophy: to create vessels that remain beautiful even at rest.

Sold as a set of two.

Meet the Artisan

Dainichi Kiln

Nestled at the foot of Mt. Minami-Dainichi in Kyoto’s Yamashina district, Dainichi Kiln is a place where the traditions of Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki meet a spirit of quiet innovation. Founded in 1980 by master potter Shigeo Takemura, the kiln takes its name from its surroundings and the ancient temple nearby. Today, Shigeo works alongside his son, Yotaro Takemura, blending decades of refined craftsmanship with fresh perspectives.

Dainichi Kiln is celebrated for its distinctive glazes, many created using natural ash from sunflowers, grapes, and figs—each imparting its own subtle hues and textures. From the serene turquoise gradients of the Hekisai series to the flowing drips and layered depth of contemporary glaze-spray techniques, every piece captures both movement and stillness. The kiln’s philosophy is simple yet profound: even when not in use, a vessel should be beautiful enough to admire. Through this balance of tradition and creativity, Dainichi Kiln offers timeless works that bring a sense of elegance and contemplation to daily life.
