Gen-emon Kiln Arita Flower Karakusa Square Plate
The square form is one of Arita ware's most considered shapes, its clipped corners a deliberate mediation between sharp geometry and the ease of a serving plate. Across the white porcelain surface, the Flower Karakusa motif fills the interior completely, cobalt blue vines curling in continuous arabesques with serrated leaves and small green accents, while iron-red flowers are distributed across the composition with an evenness that feels neither crowded nor sparse. A thin cobalt line follows the rim, containing the pattern without constraining it. Gen-emon Kiln has maintained hand-painting traditions within the Arita ceramic heritage of Saga Prefecture since the Meiji era, and this plate carries that lineage in a form that moves between the decorative and the functional without choosing between them. It works equally well set at the table or displayed as an object in its own right.
