Gen-emon Kiln Arita Flower Karakusa Sake Set
Karakusa, the flowing arabesque of intertwined vines and leaves, has traveled through centuries of ceramic history to become one of the most enduring motifs in Japanese porcelain, and at Gen-emon Kiln it is rendered with the precision and restraint that Arita ware has sustained since the 17th century. This sake set brings the Flower Karakusa across 3 pieces, one tokkuri and 2 sakazuki, in cobalt blue underglaze with iron red flowers that move continuously across each surface without interruption. The proportions between vessel and cup are considered, the tokkuri's rounded body and narrow neck balanced against the shallow, open form of the sakazuki. A wave scroll border rings the rim of each piece, a detail that holds the composition without competing with it. Used together, they make the simple act of pouring sake into something worth slowing down for.
