Gen-emon Kiln Arita Flower Karakusa Rectangle Plate
Where the square plate distributes the Flower Karakusa across its entire surface, the rectangle plate makes a different choice. The motif is confined to the border, cobalt blue vines and serrated leaves carrying iron red flowers and green accents in a continuous run around the perimeter, while the center is left entirely white, framed by a thin cobalt line that separates decoration from open space. The result is a plate that draws attention to what it holds. Food placed at the center sits within that white field, the surrounding pattern providing context without competing. Gen-emon Kiln has sustained hand-painting traditions in the Arita ceramic heritage of Saga Prefecture since the Meiji era, and this plate reflects the same technical care evident throughout the series. The clipped corners soften the rectangular form without diminishing its composure.
