Suikaen

Japanese Tea whisk craftsman Tanimura Yasaburo leads Suikaen, the atelier of traditional bamboo whisk making in Takayama, Nara Prefecture. The atelier traces its roots back five centuries, to the golden age of Chanoyu (Japanese Tea Ceremony) when Tea Master Sen no Rikyu made matcha for Oda Nobunaga, Japan's most potent shogun lord in the 16th century.

Inheriting the skill and knowledge to create whisks from the growth of the bamboo to its natural drying process over two-three years, and finally to the crafting of whisks and scoops, Master Tanimura and his family bring the culmination of centuries of Japanese history and culture.
